Dermott School District Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement

March 20, 2020

Dermott School District continues to actively monitor the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in conjunction with local and federal health authorities, Governor Asa Hutchinson, Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Arkansas Activities Association. The Governor has initiated a mandatory school closure for all Arkansas schools until April 17.

Athletics

The Arkansas Activities Association has cancelled all activities and athletics events. Please anticipate changes to our schedules in the future. We will have no athletic practice or activities (or students on campus) until further notice.

Attendance & AMI

We will have district-wide AMI days March 17 - 20 and March 30 - April 17 . School is closed the week of March 23-27 for Spring Break. If you have any questions regarding attendance or need AMI assistance, please contact your child's office. There will be more instructions regarding AMI packets. It will be communicated through School Messenger, Facebook, and Website.

Building Access - Faculty, Staff & Visitors

Out of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of our faculty and staff and the current CDC recommendations, we will allow only essential personnel (admin., teachers & staff) working at each campus daily 8am- 3pm, March 30 - April 17. Teachers and staff should only report to school on their assigned day to gather or prepare materials. Based on growing concerns with the spread of the Coronavirus, no visitors or children may enter buildings on campuses.

District Events, Groups & Field Trips

Out of concern for the safety and well-being of our students and families and the current CDC recommendations, we have made the proactive decision to cancel or postpone all field trips, fine arts, and group events March 20- April 20. This includes all group gatherings such as school awards, prom, competitions, and other events (which may be rescheduled- if possible). Field trips and events scheduled beyond April 20 are currently under evaluation pending developments in the evolving situation regarding the spread of COVID-19.

Nutrition

We will continue to provide breakfast and lunch for the students in our community beginning March 30, 2020. We will provide specific details as we get closer to March 30th through April 17, 2020.

Stay Healthy!

As a reminder, these are some quick tips to help prevent the spread of germs:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Stay home while you are sick; avoid others. Must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication to return to school.

  • Cover mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

  • Call your doctor if you have symptoms such as fever, coughing and trouble breathing

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE PLANS MAY CHANGE AT ANY TIME AS WE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE RAPIDLY EVOLVING COVID-19 VIRUS. WE WILL UPDATE YOU OF ANY CHANGES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
